Division of the Departments

The Youth Department at Brookside Baptist Church is divided into two main departments:  The Senior High Department and The Junior High Department. The Senior High department is made up of the 9th –12th grade, while the Junior High is made up of the 7th and 8th grades. Each of these departments will strive toward the same goal: to produce godly, Christian adults.

The Small Group (Power Groups) Ministry

The Small Group Ministry plays a vital role in how the youth ministry is accomplished.  Small groups are assigned yearly in September by the Youth Pastor. The Small Groups are divided by gender and also by grade. These Small Groups are developed in order ultimately to expand the ministry and outreach of our Youth Staff into the lives of the teens. Each small group meets on Wednesday night. During this time, the Youth Staff Team Member responsible for that small group meets for a time of Bible Study, testimonies, and prayer. Each Youth Staff leader is expected to make a concerted effort to invest their lives in the lives of each of the members of their Power Group. This interaction takes place on Sunday Mornings, Wednesday Nights, and during the various youth activities. This is the reason it is very important that your children take advantage of as many opportunities in the Youth Group as possible. Youth Staff will also at times invite your teenagers to do something on a one-on-one setting. These opportunities are for the discipleship of your teen.

The Teen Sunday School Ministry

The purpose of the Sunday morning Teen Sunday School will be to provide a regularly-scheduled time to disciple each teenager to glorify God by walking worthy of their calling. The Sunday School time consists of fellowship, singing, and a message from the Word of God. The music used in Teen Sunday School will always be considered warm, conservative and traditional. The music will always reflect and pattern the style and selection of music used in the Worship Services of Brookside. The preaching ministry of Sunday School will always be the central, most important part of the Sunday School agenda. These messages are developed and founded upon the Word of God.

The Wednesday Night / Sunday Night Teen Meetings

The main purposes of our Teen Meetings are fellowship and discipleship. These meetings will begin with an opening time of fellowship for the teenagers usually involving some type of fun activity. Next, we transition into a time of prayer and singing, followed by the preaching of God’s Word. The final 15 minutes of our meetings are spent in small groups. These small groups are a form of discipleship used for accountability, responsibility and action. Our small group leaders stress the application aspect of the messages and how they apply to the teens right now in their lives.

Junior High Meeting - Wednesday Nights 6:45pm - 8:15pm

Senior High Meeting- Sunday Nights 5:45pm - 7:15pm

(Senior High Teens do not meet the first Sunday night of every month)

The Teen Activity Ministry

The two normal purposes of Youth Activities are fellowship and evangelism. Each youth activity is aimed at accomplishing these particular purposes. When it comes to fellowship, the purpose of the youth activities is to break down barriers and build bridges in order to provide discipleship time between the Youth Staff and the teenagers.  Activities should also strive to break down barriers and renew fellowship between those teenagers that have built up walls between other teenagers. These activities also provide an opportunity to invite unsaved young people to be in an environment of Christian individuals. This is a time that each believer should “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven.” A message from the Word of God is included during every youth activity.

Senior High Teen Evangelism Explosion

Evangelism Explosion is a ministry that trains people how to share their faith in Christ and how to bring people from unbelief to belief. It utilizes a variety of components including prayer, actual on-the-job training where the experienced lead the inexperienced, and the principle of spiritual multiplication.

“Multiplication” is the key component—not just winning people to the Lord one-by-one (addition). But training those won to the Lord to win, and then train, others. In the Book of Acts we read that the disciples “multiplied” and “multiplied exceedingly.” This shift from addition to spiritual multiplication offers the one real hope of sharing the Gospel with a world population that is, itself, continually multiplying.

Senior High Teen Bible Study Class

Every Wednesday night there is a Senior High teen Bible study going on to deepen our teens understanding of the Word. These classes run on a 12 week rotation and the teens are taught by various pastors and other spiritual leaders from the church about various topics pertaining to their lives. Classes that are offered are Music and Worship, Apologetics, Creation, Worldliness and many more.

Camps

There are two types of camps offered on a yearly basis for both Jr. High and Sr. High teens. First, our summer camp is highly encouraged for every teenager. This is when we take the teens to a Christian camp for a week to sit under the preaching of God’s Word and to have fun and fellowship with other believers. The second type of camp is our annual snow retreat. Our snow retreat is designed to get the teens away to challenge them spiritually during the winter  months. This is a great connecting time for the teens.

The Mission Trip Ministry

One of the biggest events on our Teen Calendar is our yearly Mission Trip. Each year the Youth Group takes various missions trips with the goal of showing and burdening the teen’s heart for ministry, missions and evangelism. These trips are for Sr. High teens who meet certain requirements. Teens who are interested in attending one of the mission trips are required to fill out an application in the winter. Teams are selected and are asked to attend required meetings to prepare for the trip.
